Help Establish Houses of Refuge . . . Pregnant By Boko Haram, They Can’t Go Home Again

Original article Cradle My Heart Radio, Finding God’s Love After Abortion, Kim Ketola

In October 2016 the Nigerian Islamist radical sect Boko Haram released 21 Christian schoolgirls kidnapped from Chibok in 2014. In all 276 girls were kidnapped and the majority are still missing. Their tragedy is unfolding on a backdrop of hundreds more women kidnapped, tortured and worse, thousands of casualties and hundreds of thousands displaced by Boko Haram’s reign of terror. The kidnapped girls are brainwashed and forced to convert to Islam. Deradicalization is ongoing after release. And though their story gained the spotlight through the #bringbackourgirls campaign, the plight of the returning girls remains largely hidden.

The rejoicing quickly turned to sorrow for these girls. Many cannot return home to resume their former lives, their honor besmirched through rape and forced marriage. Suspicion and fear surrounds them in their community. A report from Christianity Today notes:

“[M]ost of the Chibok girls were reportedly forcibly converted to Islam. It is feared that many have been sexually abused and forced into marriage by their captors. A report by Nigeria’s Political Violence Research Network detailed this kind of treatment of minority Christians in northern Nigeria going back to 1999. It revealed how tremendously effective and efficient it is to focus attacks on women and girls because the effects are devastating to the community. Entire families and Christian communities are thus “dishonored,” regularly leading husbands to reject wives who are victims of rape and causing embarrassment and shame for their children. Many become outcasts in their communities, stigmatized due to their perceived association with Boko Haram, reported humanitarian news agency IRIN. Others—pregnant after rape by their captors—have been “shamed and are now accused of spawning or seeking to spawn future Boko Haram fighters,” stated IRIN.

Daniel Becker of Personhood Alliance is working with Dr. Ekene Osakwe, PhD, Immunology, Humphrey – Fulbright Fellow, Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University to create a home that will welcome and help these girls to finally heal.

Becker says, “Because of our unique focus on the “personhood of ALL innocent human life,” [Dr. Osakwe] has asked to partner with Personhood Alliance to establish a ministry to the “Boko Haram Girls” who have been kidnapped and sexually enslaved by the extremist Muslim group operating in northern Nigeria. These girls range in age from 11 to 16. Once they become pregnant by their captors many are abandoned or escape. Because of the shame of their captivity their parents refuse to allow them to return home. Their children are rejected based solely on their manner of conception . . .   It is a privilege to be asked to be the basis for a new ministry by this outstanding Fulbright scholar. Our goal is to convince the culture (and most specifically the Church) that these young women and their “demon spawn” children are to be accepted as “created in the image of God” and to place these young women in families.”

Since 1973 . . .  60+ million children have died as a result of legalized abortion in the United States. There is no visible monument to their passing. No pictures of death and destruction to prick our consciences and bring these dark deeds into the light. There is no enduring reminder that they were our hope and our future. They are voiceless, faceless and anonymous thereby leaving no lasting impression upon our generation. Unlike Hurricane Katrina, there is little residual evidence that we have suffered a tragedy of biblical proportion.

National Personhood Alliance Congress of States

We are excited to invite pro-life leaders and activists from around the nation to the National Personhood Alliance, Congress of States, Founder's Conference October 10-11, 2014 in Atlanta, GA.

We have arranged a special rate at the Holiday Inn Gwinnett Center Duluth of $82.00/night. Rooms are limited, please book early. There are plenty of hotels in the area. The venue will be across the street (1/4 of a mile) so if you are without transportation you may need an umbrella in the case of rainy weather (October is the driest month of the year in Georgia). There will be limited shuttle service from the hotel to the venue. Reservations may be canceled. See hotel cancelation policy.

Please note: The venue is in north Atlanta about 45 minutes from Hartsfield-Jackson Airport (ATL). None of the hotels in the area have direct shuttle to the Atlanta Airport. One way taxi is around $70. We recommend a cheap car rental.

The Call to Order will be Friday 7:00 pm at the Georgia Baptist Convention Center, Louie D. Newton Auditorium at 6405 Sugarloaf Parkway, Duluth, GA 30097-4092.

WHO may attend?

The new organization will be officially formed at a convention to be held in Atlanta, Ga., October 10th and 11th. Representatives of existing pro-life organizations and pro-life leaders and pro-personhood activists from across the country are invited. Attendees who affirm the founding charter will begin the process of electing a national board of directors representing each state.

Our primary objective is accommodate those individuals who are already involved in leading a pro-life ministry or that serve in some capacity of leadership within a local pro-life group. We welcome those who have a national footprint within the pro-life movement. We also welcome individual pro-personhood activists who wish to align themselves with others in their state who are interested in forming a new group organized under the NPA Charter..

It is prerequisite that each voting delegate sign an Affirmation of Agreement with our Charter. Registration will begin July 15th.

Our Purpose in Meeting

  • approve agenda and bylaws for the new group
  • elect national officers

  • approve the process of selecting delegates from each state to serve on the NPA Board of Directors

  • equip activists to start a state affiliate of NPA

Personhood is the new prolife paradigm for the 21st century. Personhood is Christ-centric, biblical worldview approach to the issue of the sanctity of life. We believe that all innocent human life is exceptional and unique and must be recognized by law and imbued with "rights and privileges". Simply put, Personhood is the cultural and legal recognition that all humans are unique persons with unalienable rights.

Help us reachout and bring safety, support, counseling and education to the women victims who suffered sexual abuse at the hands of their Boko Haram captors. This is especially true of the young women (11-17) kidnapped by Boko Haram extremists and forced into sexual slavery. Pregnant with their kidnapper's children—should they escape or be released—they are shunned by their families and culture. They have no where to turn for comfort and care. Will you help us establish Houses of Refuge led by loving families who will ministry the love of Christ to these young girls in distress?
